Opening Prayer
God our Creator, you made us in your own image and bound us together in families. We confess that we squabble and fuss with each other, forgetting that we are brothers and sisters loved by you. Grant us the grace to forgive, to celebrate our differences, and to live together in unity. We pray in Jesus’ name, Amen.

Genesis 33:4-12
But Esau ran to meet him, and embraced him, and fell on his neck and kissed him, and they wept.
When Esau looked up and saw the women and children, he said, “Who are these with you?” Jacob said, “The children whom God has graciously given your servant.” Then the maids drew near, they and their children, and bowed down; Leah likewise and her children drew near and bowed down; and finally, Joseph and Rachel drew near, and they bowed down. Esau said, “What do you mean by all this company that I met?” Jacob answered, “To find favor with my lord.” But Esau said, “I have enough, my brother; keep what you have for yourself.” Jacob said, “No, please; if I find favor with you, then accept my present from my hand; for truly to see your face is like seeing the face of God—since you have received me with such favor. Please accept my gift that is brought to you, because God has dealt graciously with me, and because I have everything I want.” So he urged him, and he took it. Then Esau said, “Let us journey on our way, and I will go alongside you.”

Now as they went on their way, he entered a certain village, where a woman named Martha welcomed him into her home. She had a sister named Mary, who sat at the Lord’s feet and listened to what he was saying. But Martha was distracted by her many tasks; so she came to him and asked, “Lord, do you not care that my sister has left me to do all the work by myself? Tell her then to help me.” But the Lord answered her, “Martha, Martha, you are worried and distracted by many things; there is need of only one thing. Mary has chosen the better part, which will not be taken away from her.”

Message: Ah, Siblings!
Almighty One, who created us in your image and fashioned us in love and joy to live in families and in relationship with all our siblings.
Brother Jesus, you taught the sisters Mary and Martha that one thing is needed, devotion to you. While we grow jealous of each other and squabble over our service to you. Show us how to forgive one another. So often we do not even realize how we harm you and each other through our fighting.
Holy Spirit, blow within us. Unify us as one family under God. Amen.
