Prelude
Lighting of the Advent Candle
Worship Assistant: Where is hope?
People: You brood of vipers! Who warned you to flee from the wrath that is to come?
Worship Assistant: Where is hope?
People: How dare you call us vipers when we are good people who try our best to do the next right thing!
Worship Assistant: Where is hope?
People: God is in your midst and you shall fear disaster no more.
Worship Assistant: Where is hope?
People: Today we light three Advent candles. Their light brightens, though even three seem to small in a dark world.
(Three Advent candles are lit)
Worship Assistant: Where is hope?
People: Hope is in the people gathered together so that we shield each others flames from the storms of life. Hope is in God’s presence among us, urging us to sing with joy no matter how sad we are.

Opening Prayer
Holy One, you came to us as a little child to show us the way and lead us to life; grant that today we may hear you again in the voices of children. Help us to hear again your message of hope and joy and become that word in our world. In Jesus’ name we pray, Amen.

Prayer
Our God, as you spoke to Joseph and the Wise Ones in their dreams, so open our hearts that we may dream not of sugar plums and presents but of your Spirit pouring out over all flesh. In this holy season of Advent, show us the new life you bring to us in the little ones of life. Renew our spirits with hope found in the discards of life and the forgotten places. We pray in Jesus’ name, Amen.
SONG Joy to the World!
Benediction
Grant us, O Lord, that what has been said with our lips we may believe in our hearts, and that what we believe in our hearts we may practice in our lives; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
