JOB DESCRIPTION
JOB TITLE: Youth Director
SUPERVISOR: Church Pastor
Position Status: Part-Time, average 20 hours/week; hours and days may vary; Regular, Non-Exempt
General Position Description: This is a ministry position with the goal to build, maintain and grow a strong, robust youth program. This person has a strong personal relationship with Jesus Christ, and is committed to continued personal growth in Christian faith.
Qualifications for Position:
• Must be able to pass national background check in compliance with the United Methodist Northwest Conference requirements.
• Must adhere to the MPUMC Youth and Children Safe Church Policy.
• Previous youth leadership experience and a committed to ministry with youth and families.
• Skills in interpersonal relationships with both youth and adults.
• Administrative skills including oral and written communication skills.
• Independent work habits plus the ability to work with church staff, the Education Committee and volunteers.
• Must be at least 22 years of age.
• Must be certified in CPR, and First AID. Certification paid for by church if necessary.
Responsibilities and Duties for Position:
Working with Youth:
• Communicate the need for personal relationship with Christ.
• Lead 6th through 12th grade youth group(s) in developing and executing a program, to meet once a week through the school year with occasional summer activities.
• Develop leadership with the youth group(s).
• Consistently make regular contact with youth (social media, phone, letter, and personal visits), always including at least one adult in the communications.
• Publicize monthly calendar of events (social media, e-newsletter, e-mail).
• Provide for fellowship opportunities.
• Plan for mission and community service opportunities.
• Facilitate integration of youth and the youth program into the life of the church.
Maintain up-to-date records on youth.
Working with adults and parents:
• Communicate regularly with parents and maintain policies that support parents.
• Maintain church policies with regard to authorized and adequate supervision and parental consent.
• Involve parents and the congregation in the youth programs. Facilitate adult volunteers.
• Teach the youth Sunday School class, using a curriculum agreed on with input from youth and the Education Team.
• Coordinate with youth on Fundraising Activities.
Working with Committees and Administrative Work:
• Meet regularly with the Education Committee, Church Council, and other committees as needed.
• Ensure that the calendar of youth events is coordinated with the overall church calendar.
• Help to develop and oversee the youth budget.
• Understand and use the Conference and District Youth Services.
• Communicate youth program updates to the church.
• Schedule adult volunteers using Planning Center Online.
• Strongly encourage participation in Sunday worship and/or Sunday School.
• Complete credit card verification within one week of receiving the spreadsheet from the treasurer.
Other specific responsibilities may be added at a later date as required.
Nursery Supervisor

Job Title: Nursery Supervisor
Reports To: Pastor
Position Status: Part – Time Regular – Non-Exempt
Job Responsibilities and Duties:
• Care for children who are entrusted to the church nursery by parents or other responsible adults.
• Instruct and assist children with personal needs including snacks and toileting while complying with established policies for handling bodily fluids, disinfectants, and other hazardous materials.
• Supervises Nursery Assistant in setting up, conducting activities and cleaning up.
• Assist with supervising children in indoor and outdoor play.
• Helping to teach rules of conduct and assists in maintaining a safe and suitable learning environment.
• Reads to children and teaches simple songs, games, arts and crafts, using curriculum selected through consultation with the Worship and Education Team.
• Routinely inspects nursery equipment and toys for cleanliness and safety.
• Ensures the nursery room is well stocked with supplies, such as diapers and wipes
• Provide nursery care for non-Sunday worship services and other church programs as requested by the Pastor.
• Other duties as assigned.
Job Skills and Requirements:
• Must be at least 22 years old
• High school diploma or GED equivalent, with at least 12 months prior experience working with children less than five years of age.
• Pass a national background check administered through Ministry Safe.
• Must adhere to the Safe Sanctuary Policy of Mill Plain United Methodist Church.
• Must have understanding of child development, good interpersonal skills to interact with children and parents, and the ability to handle crisis situations.
• Must be certified in CPR and First Aid.
• Good organization, planning and communication skills.
