Choir Director

JOB TITLE: Choir Director

SUPERVISOR: Pastor

Position Status: Part-Time, average is 5 hours/week September through mid-June, with occasional special services or rehearsals; Regular, Non-Exempt. More hours are negotiable as the program develops and grows.

General Position Description: To build and lead the choral & vocal ensemble ministry team, coordinate with our piano accompanist, and enhance the worship experience through thoughtful music excellence.

Responsibilities and Duties for Position:
-Selects choral music from a range of styles for weekly chancel choir anthem and directs its presentation as the choir anthem. Coordinates and leads the choir in weekly rehearsals.
-Regular, timely attendance at worship services and rehearsals.
-Arranges for a substitute director in the event of absence and communicates that with leadership
-Actively recruits and encourages people to participate in the choir and ensemble
-Arranges and schedules opportunities for the choir to participate in choral opportunities with other churches and/or secular events.
-Oversees the activity of volunteer music librarian(s).
-Selects and purchases music as needed, within the constraints of the music budget.
-Proposes a yearly worship music budget to the worship team chairperson.
-Attends worship committee meetings.
-Communicate and cooperate with Praise Band Director regarding contemporary music in the worship service.

Qualifications for Position:
-Bachelor’s Degree in Music preferred, or significant experience in music leadership required.
-Demonstrated experience directing choirs and conducting.
-Good organizational, planning and communication skills.
-Keyboard and other instrumental skills are a plus.
-Must align with the church’s purpose and vision statements, as well as our inclusive stance.

Basic Requirements:
-Eligible to work in the US
-At least 18 years of age
-Must be able to pass a national background check in compliance with the Pacific Northwest Conference United Methodist Annual Conference requirements.

Pay:
-$100 per worship service
-$75 per rehearsal
-Current requirements are approximately 2 rehearsals and 2 worship services per month and building towards weekly rehearsals and worship services.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:
The work is typically performed in a sanctuary or meeting room setting with no heavy lifting requirements identified.
