Call to Worship

Worship Assistant:  We are one body in Christ.

People:  We are one body, with many members.

Worship Assistant:  Hands and feet, fingers and toes, minds and hearts.

People:  We are one body, with many members.

Worship Assistant:  We need all hands-on deck, all feet and even all toes.

People:  We are here today to get on board!

Opening Prayer

Gracious God, you have made us as one body with many members.  Lead us not to think of ourselves more highly more highly than we ought nor more lowly than we ought, for all of us are one in you, equally loved, equally valued.  Lead us also not to think of others more highly or lowly than we ought for they too are equally valued and loved.  Show us how to use our gifts to praise you and bless this world.  In Jesus’ name we pray, Amen.

Scripture

Romans 12: 3-13

For by the grace given to me I say to everyone among you not to think of yourself more highly than you ought to think, but to think with sober judgment, each according to the measure of faith that God has assigned. For as in one body we have many members, and not all the members have the same function, so we, who are many, are one body in Christ, and individually we are members one of another. We have gifts that differ according to the grace given to us: prophecy, in proportion to faith; ministry, in ministering; the teacher, in teaching; the exhorter, in exhortation; the giver, in generosity; the leader, in diligence; the compassionate, in cheerfulness. Let love be genuine; hate what is evil, hold fast to what is good; love one another with mutual affection; outdo one another in showing honor. Do not lag in zeal, be ardent in spirit, serve the Lord. Rejoice in hope, be patient in suffering, persevere in prayer. Contribute to the needs of the saints; extend hospitality to strangers.

Sermon         All Toes On Board

Prayer

Blessed God, we present before you our gifts; gifts of our time, our talents, our gifts, and our service.  We offer them to you now, asking that by your grace, we can use them for your glory.  Amen.

Congregational Response to Profession of faith

Pastor:  Will you nurture one another in the Christian faith and life and include this person now before you in your care?

People:  With God’s help we will proclaim the good new and live according to the example of Christ.

We will surround this person with a community of love and forgiveness, that she may grow in her trust of God, and be found faithful in her service to others.

We will pray for her that she may be a true disciple who walks in the way that leads to life.

The Apostle’s Creed

Pastor:  Let us join together in professing the Christian faith as contained in the Scriptures of the Old and New Testaments:

Do you believe in God the Father?

People:  I believe in God, the Father Almighty, creator of heaven and earth.

Pastor:  Do you believe in Jesus Christ?

People:  I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried: he descended to the dead.  On the third day he rose again; he ascended into heaven, is seated at the right hand of the Father, and will come again to judge the living and the dead.

Pastor:  Do you believe in the Holy Spirit?

People:  I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting.

Response to Baptismal Reaffirmation

Pastor:  Now it is our joy to welcome our new sister in Christ.

People:  Through baptism you are incorporated by the Holy Spirit into God’s new creation and made to share in Christ’s royal priesthood.  We are all one in Christ Jesus.  With joy and thanksgiving we welcome you as members of the family of Christ.

Commendation and Welcome

Pastor:  Members of the household of God, I commend this person to your love and care.  Do all in your power to increase her faith, confirm her hope, and perfect her in love.

People:  We give thanks for all that God has already given you and we welcome you in Christian love.

As members together with you in the body of Christ and in this congregation of The United Methodist Church, we renew our covenant faithfully to participate in the ministries of the church by our prayers, our presence, our gifts and our service, that in everything God may be glorified through Jesus Christ.

Hymn                         What Gift Can We Bring #87

Benediction

Go forth in peace, and be of good courage; hold fast that which is good, rejoicing in the power of the Holy Spirit. And the blessing of God, Creator, Christ, and Comforter, be with you and remain with you always.  Amen
