Order Of Worship
Worship Assistant: Who is wise and understanding among you?
All: Show by your good life that your works are done with gentleness born of wisdom.
Worship Assistant: the wisdom that is from above is first pure, then peaceable, willing to yield, full of mercy, and good fruits.
All: A harvest of righteousness is sown in peace for those who make peace.
Opening Prayer (Worship Assistant)
Sometimes, O God, we are tempted to follow the advice of the wicked, to walk the path that sinners tread and scoff at you; we seek to satisfy our own desires and worry about the cares of the world. Forgive us, and teach us again to delight in your teachings and learn from Jesus’ example. Plant us deeply in your Holy Spirit, like trees planted by streams of water, that we may bear the fruit of your Holy Spirit. Amen.

Reading from the Old Testament
Happy are those who do not follow the advice of the wicked, or take the path that sinners tread, or sit in the seat of scoffers; but their delight is in the law of the Lord, and on his law they meditate day and night. They are like trees planted by streams of water, which yield their fruit in its season, and their leaves do not wither. In all that they do, they prosper. The wicked are not so, but are like chaff that the wind drives away. Therefore the wicked will not stand in the judgment, nor sinners in the congregation of the righteous; for the Lord watches over the way of the righteous, but the way of the wicked will perish.
Reading from the Gospel
Beware of false prophets, who come to you in sheep’s clothing but inwardly are ravenous wolves. You will know them by their fruits. Are grapes gathered from thorns, or figs from thistles? In the same way, every good tree bears good fruit, but the bad tree bears bad fruit. A good tree cannot bear bad fruit, nor can a bad tree bear good fruit.
Hymn Stand By Me UMH #512, verses 1, 2 & 5
The Message Lessons from the Trees: Deep Roots
Plant us by the waters of your grace, O God, that we may withstand the storms of life and bear fruit during times of drought. Amen.
Closing Song We Meet You, O Christ UMH #257
May the God of steadfastness and encouragement grant you to live in such harmony with one another, in accord with Christ Jesus, that together you may with one voice glorify the God of our Lord Jesus Christ. Amen.
