Worship Assistant: You shall not omit from your offering the salt of the covenant with your God.
People: We are the salt of the earth!
Worship Assistant: With all your offerings you shall offer salt.
People: We are the salt of the earth! We offer ourselves to God this day.

Opening Prayer
As the Hebrew people included salt with their offerings, today we come before you, O God, to worship and adore you, to be a living sacrifice of praise. Receive us into your covenant and accept us as your salty people. We pray in Jesus’ name, Amen.

Matthew 5:13-16
“You are the salt of the earth; but if salt has lost its taste, how can its saltiness be restored? It is no longer good for anything, but is thrown out and trampled under foot. “You are the light of the world. A city built on a hill cannot be hid. No one after lighting a lamp puts it under the bushel basket, but on the lampstand, and it gives light to all in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father in heaven.

Prayer
Creator God, you formed the sun to rule by day and the moon by night; grant that your light will shine through us both in the brightness and the dimness, in times of glory and joy and in times of searching and struggle. Let our light shine in the darkness and the darkness not overcome it. Amen.

Go forth to be salt and light in this world. Flavor the world with Jesus’ kindness and shine into it a flicker of hope. And the blessings of God, the Love of Jesus Christ, and the presence of the Holy Spirit be with you. Amen.
