Call to Worship
Worship Assistant: Come from the North and the South, from the East and the West, to gather at Christ’s table.
People: We come from the city streets and the fields and forests of the countryside, to gather at Christ’s table.
Worship Assistant: Come from every continent and the nations of the world, for Christ bids us all.
People: We come as people of many languages and backgrounds, for we hunger and thirst for God’s righteousness.
Opening Prayer
God of all the nations, we gather today as one people in a rainbow of colors, rejoicing that you have called us here. We confess to you today that your word is difficult for us to hear and we struggle to obey. Protect those who suffer and stir us to cleanse violence from our souls. By your grace complete in us your righteousness. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.

Scripture
Old testament Deuteronomy 5: 16-21
Honor your father and your mother, as the Lord your God commanded you, so that your days may be long and that it may go well with you in the land that the Lord your God is giving you. You shall not murder. Neither shall you commit adultery. Neither shall you steal. Neither shall you bear false witness against your neighbor. Neither shall you covet your neighbor’s wife. Neither shall you desire your neighbor’s house, or field, or male or female slave, or ox, or donkey, or anything that belongs to your neighbor.
New Testament Matthew 5:38-48
“You have heard that it was said, ‘An eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth.’ But I say to you, Do not resist an evildoer. But if anyone strikes you on the right cheek, turn the other also; and if anyone wants to sue you and take your coat, give your cloak as well; and if anyone forces you to go one mile, go also the second mile. Give to everyone who begs from you, and do not refuse anyone who wants to borrow from you.
“You have heard that it was said, ‘You shall love your neighbor and hate your enemy.’ But I say to you, Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, so that you may be children of your Father in heaven; for he makes his sun rise on the evil and on the good, and sends rain on the righteous and on the unrighteous. For if you love those who love you, what reward do you have? Do not even the tax collectors do the same? And if you greet only your brothers and sisters, what more are you doing than others? Do not even the Gentiles do the same? Be perfect, therefore, as your heavenly Father is perfect.
